3 Things You Must Do Before You Begin Painting the Exterior of Your Blaine MN Home
It might seem easy to grab a paintbrush and start painting the outside of your home, but unfortunately there are a few things that you must do before you apply that first coat of paint. Exterior painting is a lot of work and you will need to do it right the first time to avoid needing to redo it again sooner than later. Here are 3 things that you must do before you begin painting the exterior of your Blaine home:
Cleaning
There is a plethora of dirt, dust, grime, mold, and who knows what else on the outside of your home, and the only way to get it all off is to clean it. The best way to get everything off is by using a pressure washer, as it will remove everything that has been ground in.
Sanding and Filling
It is always a good idea to apply paint to a smooth even surface, which is why step two is sanding and filling. You will want to fill any cracks and holes first, and then sand everything. This step is going to take a lot of time, but it will be worth it when the paint goes on evenly and smoothly.
Priming
You may be tempted to skip this step, especially if you are painting your home the same color, but the end result may end up being a patchwork of color instead of a smooth even finish. We recommend at least one coat of primer, possibly two depending on the shade of the older color and the new color. We also recommend choosing a primer that has been formulated for the material that you are painting.
